AAC has been assigned as the North
Africa and Middle East Representative for the
Euro-Mediterranean Initiative for Technology and Innovation –
EuroMedITI. EuroMedITI is an initiative lead by the
Government of Malta and includes several EU and Arab Partners
with the aim of establishing a business innovation hub in the
region. EuroMedITI thus serves as a technology and innovation
facilitator, generator, incubator and accelerator. It will also
serve to empower entrepreneurship thereby contributing to the
development of a strong private sector base in the
Mediterranean.
AAC’s role is to provide the initiative
with various forms of support including:
§
Identification and negotiation with potential partners from the
government, private sector, donor community and academia
§
Participate in the promotion of the initiative through the
organization of awareness workshops and seminars
§
Participate in the implementation of project by providing
technical and administrative support
§
Conducting research covering North Africa and the Middle East
about technology sectors and sub sectors
In this
context AAC has among other things undertaken the following:
§
Conducted a technology horizon scan
for North Africa. The study which places particular
emphasis on Libya, Tunisia, Egypt and Morocco covered the
following sectors:

Water and environment technologies
·
Sustainable energy technologies
·
Marine technologies
·
Information and Communication
technologies.
§
Organized a 10 days awareness mission to Egypt for a senior
delegation from EuroMedITI which included meetings with over 30
organizations from the government, private sector and NGOs
including
Ministry of Foreign Affairs – Ministry of Higher Education –
European Commission - Cairo university – National Research
Centre – Academy of Scientific Research – Egyptian European
Council – Diplomatically Institute.
Organized an orientation workshop at the Headquarters of the
League of Arab State under the auspices of H.E Mr. Amr
Moussa.

AAC has conducted an export
readiness for Sigma Electronic Company under the
Industrial Modernization Centre – IMC framework. The
activates that have been done were:

Conducting meetings with the company top managers.

Carrying out the

and recommendations in a final report. |

AAC has acquired the
representation of the Chartered Institute for Logistics and
Transport – CILT International in Egypt, Libya and Sudan.
The CILT is a centre of excellence that provides logistics and
transport experts and practitioners with:

structured qualifications and
professional development programmes
§
information about latest
developments through periodicals, conferences, seminars and
other events
§
a venue for networking and
coordination In this context, AAC has:
§
organized a training of trainers
course to raise the capacity of local experts in the field of
logistics and transport
§
Prepared a plan for the
introduction of the CILT Certificate and Diploma as well as the
implementation of short courses starting October 2007. |

AAC is short listed for the

International Conference on Cyber Law – ICCY II in cooperation
with Arab Administration for Development Organization (ARADO).
ICCYII which will be held in Malta between November 27th – 30th,
2006 will serve as a forum for stakeholders
aiming at formulating an International Strategy and Plan for
Internet Legislation and Regulation.

AAC prepared
a study on How to Employ Communication and Information
Technology to Develop a Positive Relationship between the Civil
Society, the Private Sector and the State. The study was
undertaken on behalf of the Enhancing Local Development and
Governance Issues using IT Support Project – a UNDP Funded

AAC provides
continuous management consultancy to the Arab Investment
Union – AIU including but not limited to the following:

meet members’ needs

AAC is prepared an export marketing
study covering 5 countries in the Middle East and Africa for
"Trust for Engineering Industries", a company specialized in the
production of seats for use in motor vehicles. |

2004 – 2006 |
AAC assists the
General Association for Vocation Training and Productive
Families – GAVTPF in implementing Phase 1 of the
Electronics Productive Families Project. The project is
being implemented with the financial support of the Arab Gulf
Fund for United Nations Development Organisations – AGFUND.
Project Objectives:
The aim of the Project is to increase
venues through which low income families are able to participate
in the formal sector. This is achieved through the formulation
of a comprehensive scheme that allows beneficiaries to
participate in the production and marketing of electronic
components and technological inputs (components & final
products) that require minimal capital investment and rely on
family labor and apprenticeship.
AAC’s role in the project includes:

AAC participated in various events
(conferences, seminars and workshops) discussing issues of
relevance to the promotion of civil society developed. The last
event attended is entitled "Civil Society and Reform in the Arab
World", a three day conference organized by the Centre of Future
Studies – University of Assuit and attended by representatives
of civil society organizations from 12 Arab countries.

Programme – EBIS, a project funded by IMC and being implemented

AAC prepared a "Markets Needs
Assessment" on behalf of the “Human Resources Development
National Program” – UNDP with the aim of identifying
activities required to promote the exports of Egyptian SMEs. |

AAC assisted the SMEs Development
Association – Port Said in obtaining funding from the
“Human Resources Development National Program” – UNDP for a
project that aims at assisting SMEs in creating a strong
presence in the electronic market place through the development
of an interactive web-portal that has the capacity of
contributing to the alleviation of problems related to domestic
and international marketing. The project also aims at creating
venues for facilitating the employment process by matching
between job offerers and seekers. |

AAC
provides consultancy services to the Union for Economic
Development Associations – UEDA
Assisted the UEDA in preparing an
“Unsolicited Application” for a USAID grant. The proposed
project was accepted by USAID and is currently being reviewed by
the Egyptian Ministry of International Cooperation.
The proposed project covered the following:

The establishment of a
specialized unit dedicated to the investigation of both
enacted laws and bids under review, increasing the awareness
of civil society and stakeholders of issues related to the
regulatory and legislative environment as well as
communicating beneficiaries feedback to the competent
government authorities

The organization of
seminars, workshops and training courses to increase the
awareness and skills of civil society agents
-
The establishment
of networking arrangements and the organization of study tours
to regional and international NGOs

AAC has been appointed as the
regional office for the Iraqi Investment Union – IIU, an
organization that was established by a group of Iraqi
businessmen under the auspices of the League of Arab States with
the aim of coordinating investment and trade in Iraq.
AAC’s role:

strategic plan for its activities

implementing its action plan specifically the following:

and implementing a Fund Raising Plan for sponsoring the

2003 |
AAC has undertaken a compilation of
a Monograph for the Furniture and Woodworking Industry.
The project was implemented under the supervision of the
Industrial Modernisation Centre (IMC) and the Chamber for
Furniture and Woodworks.
Project Objectives:
1) The compilation of all available
information and data on the furniture and woodworking industry
in Egypt during the past 5 years as well as attempting to
resolve the existing inconsistencies within collected data.
2) The contribution to the improvement of
the availability and accessibility of the information about the
woodworks sector by identifying information gaps and offering
suggestions on how such information may be obtained.

AAC assisted the SMEs
Development Association – Port Said and the Association
for Technical Skills Development and training for SMEs - Port
Said in the preparation of the "Expression of Interest" for
the grant provided by the Business Representative
Organizations Programme (BROs) – IMC. Both organisations
have been selected to participate in the upcoming stages of the
EBIS programme. |

AAC has been assigned the
monitoring and evaluation of the feasibility study for the "Arab
Holding Company for Marketing and Trade". This initiative is
being undertaken by the Council of Arab Economic Unity in
cooperation with Arab Authority for Agriculture Investment and
Development – AAAID. |

AAC prepared a Prefeasibility
Study for the establishment of a Manufacturing Facility for
the Production of Medium Density Fibreboard – MDF in
Egypt. The assignment was carried out on behalf of Al Yahya
Int’l Trading Group – Saudi Arabia. |

AAC prepared a Prefeasibility
Study for the establishment of a Furniture & Woodworking
Technology Centre in response to a request from the
Industrial Modernization Centre – IMC on behalf of the Ministry

seminars in the field of Total Quality Management such as
ISO9000 Revisions, ISO 14000, CE-Marking, Waste Management and
Environment Management – 1999-2001. |

in the Sultanate of Oman in organizing “GULF AGROFISH 1999
